Every December, the WordPress community pauses; not to push harder, sell louder, or compete for attention, but to give back.

WordPress Gives a Hand is a reminder of what makes this ecosystem special. Now in its 6th year, this community-led initiative brings companies, creators, and users together around a shared goal: focusing on impact and on people, rather than promotions.

From December 22–28, we’re proud to take part once again, alongside many others who believe that giving back should be part of how we do business.

What Is WordPress Gives a Hand?

WordPress Gives a Hand is a community-led charity initiative that takes place every December, inviting WordPress companies and creators to give back to causes they care about.

The idea behind WordPress Gives a Hand began a few years ago, in 2020, when members of the WordPress community wanted to do something truly meaningful during the challenging times. Instead of focusing on discounts or promotions, they decided to redirect a portion of their revenue to support causes that make a real difference.

There’s no central organizer, no fixed rules, and no single charity everyone must support. Instead, participants choose how they want to contribute — whether that’s through donations, awareness, or support — and share their involvement openly with the community, while using #WPGivesAHand to spread awareness.

What started as a simple act of generosity quickly grew into a broader movement, united by a shared goal of giving back and inspiring others to do the same.

Now in its sixth year, WordPress Gives a Hand has grown into a tradition rooted in shared values. It’s a collective reminder that the WordPress ecosystem isn’t just built on open-source software, but on people who believe in collaboration, responsibility, and generosity.

Rather than competing for attention during the busiest sales season of the year, participants choose to redirect that energy toward something more meaningful: making a positive impact beyond WordPress itself.

Why We’re Joining WordPress Gives a Hand

Giving back has always been part of how we think about building products, growing a business, and participating in the WordPress ecosystem.

WordPress Gives a Hand isn’t something we “add on” at the end of the year; it’s something that aligns naturally with our values. As a community-driven, open-source ecosystem, WordPress thrives because people contribute, support one another, and look beyond short-term wins.

Choosing to focus on giving is a conscious decision. It’s a way to step back from the noise, acknowledge the privilege of building and working in this space, and redirect attention to causes that need it far more than another promotion ever could.

This year, we’re also donating 10% of all sales between December 22–28 to charity, making our commitment tangible and impactful. For us, participating is about using our platform responsibly to grow and to contribute in a human, intentional, and meaningful way.

Causes That Matter And Why Choice Is Part of the Initiative

One of the things that makes WordPress Gives a Hand special is that there’s no single cause everyone is expected to support.

Instead, participants are encouraged to choose charities and initiatives that resonate with them personally, whether that’s supporting children and families, helping animals in need, protecting the environment, or responding to urgent humanitarian crises. This freedom is intentional. It allows the initiative to reflect the diversity of the WordPress community itself, while still moving in the same direction.

What connects all of these efforts isn’t the specific charity, but the shared intent behind them: to use this moment to give back thoughtfully, and to turn collective attention into collective good.

How You Can Support WordPress Gives a Hand

WordPress Gives a Hand is a community initiative, and that means everyone has a role to play.

Whether you’re a company, a freelancer, an agency, or a WordPress user, there are several ways to support the cause during December 22–28:

  • Apply to join WordPress Gives a Hand and participate as a company by donating to a charity or cause you care about, then share your involvement with the community.
  • Support participating businesses by working with them or purchasing their products during the initiative period. In our case, 10% of all sales between December 22–28 will be donated to charity.
  • Share and amplify the message on social media using #WPGivesAHand.
  • Repost and engage with other participants’ content to help it reach a wider audience.
  • Give shout-outs to fellow ambassadors and contributors and help spotlight their efforts.
  • Spread the word, because every share helps turn individual actions into collective impact.

By supporting each other, we strengthen the initiative and extend its reach beyond our own networks.

Giving Back, Together

WordPress Gives a Hand reminds us why this community works: because people care.

It’s not about promotions, metrics, or visibility. It’s about stepping up, supporting causes that matter, and showing that the WordPress ecosystem is about more than software. It’s about people helping people.

Thank you to everyone participating, sharing, donating, and supporting. Every effort counts, no matter how small, and together we can create a meaningful, collective impact.

This December, let’s focus on kindness, collaboration, and generosity and keep proving that when the WordPress community comes together, we can make a difference. 💙
